Job description

In support to the development of the Web platform of the EUFO project (“EU Observatory on Deforestation, forest Degradation, and associated Drivers”) in the JRC, the European Union Joint Research Centre located in Ispra, Varese, Italy, a new open position as external consultant is available.  The candidate will support the day-to-day operations of the research group providing expertise in the following fields:

  • to develop a new digital Web information platform, with cross-browser and multi-platform compatibility
  • to develop web-interfaces for Web-GIS analysis, as well as tools for data dissemination via Web-GIS
  • to develop web-services related to viewing of spatial data (e.g. forest maps) and non-spatial data (e.g. trade of forest products) and for country or region specific reporting through dedicated dashboards

Requested skills

knowledge in designing and maintaining databases in PostgreSQL

knowledge in web and scripting Object Oriented languages (Python)

knowledge in web-based standards and technologies (React, CSS, JavaScript, JSON)

technical knowledge in web services (REST) and OGC Geographical Web Services (WMS, WFS, WPS)

Knowledge in GIS software and tools (ESRI ArcMap and extensions, GDAL/OGR, QuantumGIS, GRASS GIS)

Knowledge in developing and managing webGIS with MapServer, Geoserver, Leaflet, Mapbox, GeoExt and PostGIS

Knowledge in the use of 'docker' technology
